  1. No, modeling clay is dirt clay mixed with oil rather than water and it never hardens - you have to make a plaster or latex mold if you want a permanent copy.   Playdoh is a commercial non-toxic plastic clay for kids.  "primarily flour, water, and salt" http://www.babyandkidallergies.com/play-...

  2. Modeling clay you have the option to harden your desired sculpture. Playdoh never hardens(it gets stiff) but it always soft to constantly change sculpture ideas.

  3. There are various types of modeling clay out there.  One type is the wax formulation clay, made primarily for children.  It never dries out and can be reworked over and over again. Because it is a firm clay you can create projects with great detail.   Great colours too.

Playdoh will dry when exposed to air, but not very strong.  You really can't use it for anything involving detail, it just won't hold up.  Hard to add pieces on to another as well.

Polymer clay is also a type of modeling clay, but requires a temperature of 275 F. in order to cure.  It then becomes rock hard.

You can create beautiful detailed work with it in many colours.  It is sold by many brands, such as Sculpey, Fimo, or Kato clay.
