  1. A foal wil start seeing a farrier form the age of about 6-8 weeks, just to trim the feet and if necessary carry out corrective procedures.

    They will wear racing plates once they start racing, at the age of 2.

    Some trainers do not like to shoe their horses at all, particularly jumping horses, as they feel that the shoe prevents the hoof from acting as a shock absorber when the horse lands.

    Simon Earle is a trainer who does not shoe any of his horses.


  2. It depends on what your doing with your horse but usually a foal will start getting their hooves trimed at around 6-8 weeks. Ask your farrier about it
