I close the blinds in front of my sliding glass window at night and my dog sticks his face between them to see out. Now all his slobber, dirt, and hardened eye googoo is on them and it's just gross. What's the easiest/best way to clean them?

  1. If they are vinyl you can use anything even soap and water oughta do it. If cloth, take 3 parts Hydrogen Peroxide to 3 drops of liquid dish soap. Spong on and let sit 1 hour. Then clean off with a damp cloth and water. If they are colored, do a test spot first to be sure they are colorsafe.~~

  2. if they are plastic, like mine, there are a few different things..

Either take them down, maybe half at a time, and put em in the tub with a bit of water and cleanser, then wipe each down.  Hang them back up with a towel on the floor to dry . then do other half.

or just wash em where they are. towels on floor to catch drips, use a good spray cleaner, wipe well.  of course the windows will get a wash too..

I have found the Windex with vinager workd well.  Or they spray scrubbing bubbles, i use it for the tub, or on whatever i need to leave on for a few minutes. rinse this with a clean wet rag though. they both work pretty well..

speaking of windows, and blinds, i know my window is due for a scrub, i should take a look at the blinds again though..

  3. mine are pvc and i find the best way is to take them down then run a shallow bath just enough to cover the blind and add a genral purpose cleaner like flash then leave them to soak for about half an hour then i put my shower on full blast(cold) and give them a good going over any stubborn marks that are left i just wipe with a cloth. that usually does the trick and i also hang them back up while they are still wet

  4. If they are PVC with no material on then then take them off and take them to the car wash!

  5. Oooooh.... sounds yummy!  Not!

    Bad dog!  LOL!

I clean almost everything in my house with Windex or just vinegar and water.  Lay a towel under them, then spray the c**p out of them with Windex.  Let it sit for a minute, then rub them down with a wet cloth.

Another way to do it is to fill the bathtub with dish soap, laundry soap or vinegar and water, then take them all down and soak them in the tub.  Scrub them off, then rinse them under the shower.  Then put them back up... but that is more involved.

I've got the same problem as you, except it's SIX dogs doing it.

  6. If they aren't too big and you can take them down fairly easily, put some warm water and dish soap in your tub and dunk them a few times. Empty the tub and fill with rinse water and dunk again!  Hang a couple  of wire hangers on your shower curtain rod and slip each end of the blinds onto a hanger and let them drip dry.  I've even taken mine outside and dunked them in the pool!!

  7. You should be able to pull them out of the clasps and clean them in the bathtub with soapy water. Also, try Krud Kutter (Home Depot) that stuff really works at removing ground in grime.

Rinse and dry and then rehang.

  8. In order to make it easier on yourself, try using a pair of white cotton work gloves that you can purchase at any hardware or garden store. Run a pail or sink of warm water and add some white vinegar to it. Put on the gloves and soak them in the vinegar water, squeezing your hands together to wring out the excess. Then just run your gloved hands up and down the blinds to clean them without having to take them down. This method  gives you more maneuverability while cleaning the blinds without having to take them down and trot them between the bathroom and sliding glass door.
