What's the easiest way to introduce mutations into sunflower seeds?

google search so far points to x-rays as a mutation source. anything easier?

  1. Use genetically engineered Agrobacterium.  Inject it at the base of the plant.  It will create a gall.  As the bacteria infects the plant, it will start mutations.


  2. Some chemical exposure will do the same thing, but it usually kills the seeds.

  5. Irradiate the seeds with a prolonged low level x-ray or gamma ray radiation. If the radiation does not kill the germ the seed will produce a mutant sunflower.

  6. UV will do the job, too. Or you can soak them in nicotine extract for a while. Any carcinogen substance can cause a mutation (that is what cancer cells are, mutated cells that can't stop replicating).
