I wanted something that doesn't require a brush unless I absolutely have to. Since I want to work right where the furniture is.

Which is shinier ? Rub on polyurethane or butcher's wax? Or maybe just use pledge?

  1. Linseed oil its cheap and can be bought at a health food store and rub it on the wood!

  2. Urine.

  3. I would suggest to use Minwax product, it an be rubbed on with a cloth. It comes in many shades and does an excellent job.

  4. if you want super shiny then go for french polish. This is shellac based and you just polish it over coats of french polish.

you will eventually end up with a mirror finish.

do not attempt to do a large area until you have worked on narrow pieces first as you need to develop a fast technique.

It is the ultimate finish but not as durable as some others

  5. Polyurethane is shiniest, but messy and smelly. Linseed oil (artists quality, no additives) rubbed on with a cloth will make the wood dark and oily but not terribly shiny. Plus it's non-toxic. Paste wax will be a nice gentle sheen. I don't know butchers wax.  These suggestions are for unfinished wood. You can use pledge or lemon oil if the wood already has a sealed finish.
