  1. Throw a few cheerios in the toilet, and let him aim for them.  He will get the idea -- "big boys" like to stand up.

  2. get some easy to clean books and toys that he can only play with when he's on the potty.

  3. Maybe if he has a brother or cousin  close to his age that lives with him he can show him what he does?  This way he will see what big boy's do.

  4. you should tell him that if he goes to the bathroom he can get his favorite kind of candy from you.

  5. Simply use a lot of positive reinforcement in order to shape his or her behavior.  This can easily be done by providing them with something pleasurable (such as M &Ms or anything the child likes) each time they approximate the desired behavior.  So each time the child does something close to what you want, reward that behavior.  If they do not do what you want, do nothing (no reward or punishment).

  6. You might want to put pictures to remind him what he's supposed to do - DON"T LAUGH - I'm serious.  You can put a picture of him pulling pants down, sitting (or standing) on the toilet, flushing, redressing and washing hands.  Visual clues can be beneficial to children with developmental delays.

  7. the easiest way to potty train your 3 year old is to use it with him like in the same bathroom ( its not like he's your child) and have his potty  next to you and maybe he will get the concept of how people use the bathroom.

  8. Put it on the toilet
