What's the easiest way to replace the lower ball joint on a 97 f250?

i don't have the standard f250 body style mine looks more like a beefy f150. the axel is out now i just need to get the ball joint out to put the new one in. does the bolt on the ball joint itself come out?

  1. I assume you have a ball joint press. If not, walk to your local autozone and rent one. Make sure you get the truck aligned afterwards.


  2. Well there really isnt any easy way to get them out. For one you will need a ball joint press, and you will need to press  it out or drive it out. The "bolt" on the ball joint doesnt come out unless it is broken. After removal you have to line up the ball joint from the bottom and press it in. It can be a little tricky using the press but it saves alot of time and it keeps from destoying the new ball joint. Some people try to drive them in and end up tearing them up. If this didnt help you can always go and buy a Haines manual for that truck from the parts store and it will give a detailed break down on how do just about anything you need to do on that truck. Well good luck and watch your knuckles...
