My late partner and I went to concerts fairly often and usually dined before hand. She has passed away and I would like to know if it is considered safe or correct for older single women to dine out? It is 5 years since her death.

  1. It is fine. to dine out alon. I suggest causual but fun. Red... If you choose black it would remind you of the person who past away.

It will be hard to move on...but it is time... always remeber you all ways have piece in your heart. You need to socialize and communicated with life so you can contiue to life and be happy.

Have fun and good luck... try it this weekend you need to do something to keep your mind focus and happy.

Also, try joing a club like toastmasters or rotary... something you like to keep you busy and meet people.

  2. Black long dress

  3. Women were looked at weird or pitied when they went anywhere alone back in the days. But, it's the new millenium, women are now CEO's, Presidents (of companies & countries) and executives. Many women dine alone and sometimes prefer it. It gives us a sense of freedom and independence that we were not given before. We have it now and we love it. Yes, there are those who are still stuck in the old world and with their old ways. Maybe, they will look at you strangely or sadly and might think, "Oh, that poor women," or whatever. But, just like another answerer said, "Who the heck cares what they think." Besides they are pretty pathetic and closed minded to think that themselves. Furthermore, you should feel confident that you are in fashion and they are not. You can counter any of those negative thoughts and say to yourself, "Oh, how sad he or she still lives in the dark ages." Additionally, if you can allow yourself to really enjoy your dinner and experience it, any of those negative thoughts can be countered with the thoughts of your new found independence and freedom. It's a choice you make to go out to dinner alone than to sit cooped up at home. You should feel proud and great about yourself that you made that choice. So, own it and love it.

  4. Jesus Christ Rose, get out there and have some fun! Dine alone, invite a friend:male or female, or leave them behind. Go eat, go dance, go to the show, post an ad for a social buddy, pursue a hobby and have some fun. But yes, five years is long enough to honor the dead. I think that your friend would tell you the same thing!

  5. conservative, sometimes trendy, casual style or sophisticated look. depending on time of day and season.

  6. Yes, of course it is correct for a single woman to dine alone, and it is safe unless you go into real dives!  I'd second Anna - take a book.  It serves a dual purpose: it makes your experience much more enjoyable, and, if you don't want to be bothered by other people, it serves as 'armour' - people see you are happily occupied.

If you want to ease yourself gently into the 'dining alone' experience, start with lunch - many people lunch alone.  Then on later occasions, take an early supper out alone, and then when you are comfortable, you can dine alone as late and as often as you like!

If you actually would like other people to dine out with from time to time, think about joining a book group or musical appreciation society.

  7. Dear Rose P.,

Yes, it is safe and correct to dine alone.  I used to eat alone quite often.  Now married, I eat alone rarely, but love it when I get a chance to.

I had a boyfriend who told me he wondered what was wrong with women who ate alone.  I guess some people may do that, but who cares.

Go out.  Enjoy being with you.  Drink a glass of wine.  If the place is informal, bring a book.

    Happy Eating!
