start out with the chords a,c,d,g,e.you can play tons of good songs with those chords.

There is no fast way. Everybody says to learn tab first (well, the answers I've seen), and that's just jumping a REALLY wide gap and missing a lot of important information. Just go in order from learning how to hold the guitar and pick, then the names of the strings, etc.

If you're a visual learner (and can't afford taking lessons), buy Teach Yourself Visually Guitar.

As the months go by, PLEASE take lessons! You can get somewhere with teaching yourself but with an actual person/professional on guitar by your side for a half hour once a week will do wonders for your playing, gaurentee.

well there's a fast way to learn guitar and there's the BEST way to learn guitar. you really can't have both. the best way to learn guitar is to first learn correct musical notation and where those notes are on the guitar. then you should work on conservatory music (scales, and classical music), and slowly you will be able to play todays pop music and rock solos.......

you're also going to need a guitar teacher.

or you could learn the easy but not efficient way. Pick up a tabulature book and read about how it works. It's very easy to understand but not truly reading music. unfortunatly i use all tab with a few exceptions and i highly regret it. but i know musical notation from my piano and singing, but i probably will not be able to "shred" a guitar anytime soon.
