What's the first step in baking?

When I mean baking, I mean using the oven.

Read the entire recipe.  Sometimes there is something added at the end not included in the list of ingredients.  Or, it may say "refrigerate for 24 hours".  You really need to know everything before even getting out all the ingredients.  I like to use the French "mis-en-place" where you do all the measuring, chopping, etc, before-hand and put them in little bowls ready to dump in the mixing bowl.  (They do this on TV, too.)

First of all, besides setting the oven temperature,  When u mix up your ingredients, follow the recipe and measure correctly.  Make sure you have a set of measuring cups, measuring spoons, a mixer and spatula.  I think it's a good idea to for example if u make a cake from scratch to mix your dry ingredients together.   Follow the recipe if you're not sure.

Please also you may want to be more specific on what exactly you are asking.  There are recipe websites.  Do a search on google or refdesk.com.

I was always told that was to wash your hands.  Other than that deciding what you are going to bake.
