It varies according to what the schoalrship is for. But I do know that extracurricular is not spelled the way that you have it and you need to have your spelling and grammar down pat. Otherewise you can run the race but you won't be finishing.

There are different types. Some are based on financial need, sports ability and academic ability. I guess you are asking about academic ability so depending on the school itself which also has different preferences ( say Stanford likes a variety of ethnicities from different areas of the world and perhaps another University zeroes in on  the GPA, SAT etc. Is that what your question concerns? I mean since there are so many sources of scholarships it would depend on the source, no?
