What's the format of the NYS driver's permit exam?

How many questions, is it multiple choice, how many correct are needed to pass, how much time it takes, etc.

I took the test on Friday.  Make sure you have all the right documents like passport ect because I had to go home like 3 times before taking the test.  First you line up so that the DMV can take a permit photo and check all your documents.  You need to have your original social security card.  After taking the photo and checking the documents, you get a number and you have to wait again before getting called into the testing room.  There are 20 questions on the test and almost all of the questions are on the practice test.  You can get upto 6 wrong.  There is a sign chart taped the the desk that you will need inorder to answer some questions.  Most of the questions are on signs and make sure you know what the lines on the road means.  The test took be about 8-10 minutes.  It is really easy if you take the practice test online.  After taking the test, you will sit on the side and wait to be called.  After they tell you that you have passed, you will have to wait again and have another number so that you can pay.  Its better if you go later because it won't be as crowded.  It still took me a long time to wait but it isn't as long as in the morning.  You get as much time as you need but you won't spend more the 15 minutes on it.  I got none wrong.

ok im going to try to remember... i took the permit exam like 6 yrs ago... but i think it was 20 questions and u could only miss 6 questions... they have a review book at the dmv for free... you should def pick that up and study it and also on there website they had multiple choice questions over each chapter in the review bk so take those and u will def pass...
