Sounds like someone's Great-Aunt. Or a turtle. I think it is one of those out-dated names that is not going to be fashionable again anytime soon (if at all).

I usually like old-fashioned names, but I've never been fond of this one. It rhymes with turtle - that's honestly my very first thought. I tend to imagine a very grouchy old lady when I hear this name.

Honestly I think of a turtle! My mom's name is Marilyn and she is very slow about everything, we nicknamed her Myrtle Turtle.

HATE IT..I worked with a 65 yr old Myrtle before and she was a mean ol *****. We called her Myrtle Girtle, Myrtle Turtle. Just a weird name anyways. Please no..its an old persons name.

I had a teacher in kindergarten named Mrs. Mrytle, needless to say we dubbed her Myrtle the turtle.......... I can still remember the song Myrtle turtle wet the bed Myrtle turtle wiped it up with gingerbread!

Personally I do not  think the name is suitable for a child of today but the name is not in itself ugly. It is just dated and unlike some names who are coming back in style, Myrtle is still in the oldie category. Personally, I like it because of thr Myrtles Plantation in Louisiana.
