  1. its got so many words of  its own its almost a separate tongue rather than an accent,  some of them from the Scots  but also many regional words from the local area.  - Newcastle on Tyne and Jarrow.

    the accent is heavy too - a bit like Welsh because it has a very musical upward lilt at the end of most sentences - which makes it sound pretty friendly but even more difficult to understand.   There are a lot of Geordie songs, recent and folk, if you want to  get familiar with the sound before you visit


  2. People who have a really strong accent can be very hard to understand, however you shouldn't have too much problem understanding most people. Its a lovely accent, and the people in Newcastle and the rest of the north east (not just the geordies!) are great, and friendly.
