because I don't like other natural sweeteners (honey, stevia, fruit) in it. Someone I know drinks things like Odwalla but it is too little food for me. I need filling things b/c I am an avid runner. I eat other things like eggs in addition to the oatmeal. Thanks.

  1. scrambled eggs, fruit salad

  2. oatmeal and sweetened condensed milk is a healthy breakfast

  3. Could u add fruit and raisens in your oatmeal too? Adding a bananna and a few raisens would make a super healthy breakfast..... or an sliced apple, or peach or strawberries???

  4. oatmeal is a wonderful healthy breakfast food-it is much better for you than all those processed cereals you buy in the boxes. oatmeal has lots of fibre-it is filling without the excess sugars, and it will keep you full for a long time-you have chosen the perfect breakfast-congratulations.- good job.

  5. You can try different grain flakes: wheat, barley, rye, spelt... and steel cut oats or buckwheat for some variety. Mix them up too. I don't like dairy products so I use Soy milk in mine. Also, I always add cinnamon and coconut, sometimes various other seeds (hemp, sesame or ground flax) and/or nuts. For sweetener, I use maple syrup but have also used honey or mollasses and sometimes add various cereals. Otherwise oatmeal's a great choice!

P.S. I always have lots of fruit first thing in the morning then love to dig in to my "oatmeal" a while later.

  6. If you run, oatmeal is a good choice, but I run also and have found that whole wheat is GREAT for a really healthy and stable energy source. Foods high in fiber keep you fuller longer, and whole grains and wheats will keep your energy levels higher and regulated, and it's good for your heart. You would be really well off with an organic, whole grain cereal with plenty of fiber (try Kashi brand or Cascadian Farms, both excellent organic companies that do a lot for the environment too.) Make sure to use skim milk. Also adding berries or diced fruit would make the breakfast much healthier. I like to add strawberries, which have fiber, or blueberries, which have antioxidants, or bananas, which are great for runners because potassium has been proven to reduce running cramps some people get.

So I would reccomend an organic whole wheat cereal with skim milk, fruit either mixed in or on the side, and water or a low sugar all natural fruit juice (orange juice, apple juice etc.) as a beverage.
