What's the legal driving age in Canada?

I heard it's been changed to 18? If so, where have you heard this?

Canada is a large country.  There are slightly different laws regarding age, and the necessity of going through a GDL, in each province and territory.  The question cannot be answered properly without knowing what part of Canada you are asking about.

yes 16 is the age in all provinces to get your Learners permit.  (written test on rules and signs) which allows you to drive only with another licensed driver .  (Alberta its actually 14 with parents consent).

After you pass the written test you practice with a licensed driver or driving school usually 6 months to a year and then you do the first road test. You pass that and your a  "New Driver" so you can drive alone but with some restrictions such as 0 blood alcohol, limted passengers etc..

After about  a year of real driving you go for a second road test where they graduate you to full license  (no restrictions)

so yea by the time you get the full deal you'll be 18!

The driving ages differ between provinces - it's regulated by the individual provinces.

In Alberta you can get your first permit at 14.  In BC I know it's 16 even though with the graduated L-N system (which kicks my *** all over the place) you can't get your real full licence until you're about 45 years old.  Okay, I think it's actually 19 or 20, but it feels like that.  In PEI if you were fifteen-and-a-half you can get a licence but it's being changed to 16.

I haven't heard anything about the driving-age being federalized never mind moved up 2 years.

14 years of age for a learners permit,

16 years of age when you get a LIMITED licence (you have limitations and curfew)

18 years of age you are free from curfew ect.

It depends on the province.

Alberta is 14, i know that for sure, because they all need to be able to drive the tucks around the farm!
