  1. 79 hours!!! chicago to San Francisco!! we were running late because of the floods in iowa. actually we got caught in the storms that killed the boyscouts in iowa

    from beijing to huang shan area 20 hours

  3. New Orleans to Los Angeles, about 48 hours. Then had a couple of hours in LA before boarding a train to Chicago the same day, 45 hours I think. Finally, an overnight hop to Washington, DC. Total of 5 straight nights spent on the train.

    I think the longest anyone could spend on a *single* train would be on the Trans Siberian railway, about a week.

  4. I took a train Christmas Eve 2003 from Essex Junction, Vermont to Union Station, DC.  It took about 14 hours.  Lots of screaming kids.  Lots of drinking.
