  5. floccinaucinihilipilification I think is the longest real word in the Oxford English

  6. It would not be in English, most likely, as English tends to break long words into bits, or links them by hyphens.

A German word would be a candidate, as simple nouns can be linked to make long complex nouns. They are used, but you would not find them in dictionaries. How about this one (from some technical text):

    "Uebertragungskapazitaetsfunktionalita...

In Thai language, no is required between individual words. In Thai, you might encounter "words" with 50 letters or more, but even at 100 or more Thais would be able to read the text. Well, it looks like one word, but it isn't.

P.S. I see that the German word I quote cannot even reproduced by Yahoo.  :-)

  8. Chemical Terms

Two chemical terms (3,641 and 1,913 letters long) have appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records. They were withdrawn because they have never been used by chemists, and there is no theoretical limit to the length of possible legitimate chemical terms. A DNA molecule could have a name of over 1,000,000,000 letters if it was written out in full.

(1,185) ACETYLSERYLTYROSYLSERYLISOLEUCYLTH... = Tobacco Mosaic Virus, Dahlemense Strain.

This word has appeared in the American Chemical Society's Chemical Abstracts and is thus considered by some to be the longest real word.

  9. Don't know about the world, but these must be contenders.

The longest word in the English language, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanocon... (A lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust – mostly found in volcanoes). The only other word with the same number of letters is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanocon... its plural.
