I've had them for several months and I'm truly going insane. I love golf but enough is enough. I've tried all of the tips , 2X4, weight on heels, stand closer, stand farther, and nothing is working. I also took some time off from the game. Nothing is working. For the first time ever, I'm contemplating giving up the game eventhough I love it so much.

Someone tell me you can get rid of them by fixing your swing.

What's the longest you've ever heard of someone having them?

  1. Shank happens because your hip/lower body is way ahead of your hand. Especially when you're trying to look up at the flight of ball before you actually hit them.

I had them one in a while with the short irons. Try to hit the ball, make sure you're seeing you hit the ball and look up.

  2. I've got them right NOW!  Been erratic for about the past 2 months.  Definitely the more you think about it, the worse it gets.  If you have any doubts approaching the ball it gets magnified.  Swing the stick man.  It's golf!

  3. I had them for a couple of weeks last summer.  Check out the link below.  This is the drill I used to help cure them and it doesn't cost you anything other than a bucket of balls at the driving range.

  4. since the day I started playing

  5. I've had them for an entire round, but i got through them by going to the range and just making sure I swung completely through the ball and didn't try to "pinch" it.

I still beleive the shanks are all in the head. I also try not to say the "S" word, and chose to say I just hit a "horizontal" just so the term is not in my head.

  6. I've never had them...(knock on wood)....but I do remember Harvey Pennick (sp?)  saying that it was impossible to hit a shank with a closed club face.  Try "clipping the tee at impact" .....this was the method Harvey always used with his students to get them to square the club face at impact.

    Good luck.

  7. The "lateral" shot is so contagious that I don't even want to go near telling you my experiences with it, or any possible cures.  If you have had them several months I would say there really is no point in your continueing to play.  You are just going to infect others.  Thought about tennis or fishing?
