Bishen singh bedi, purportedly declared the lowest ever total in test match cricket in a test against the west indies sometime in the 1970s since some of his batsmen were injured with the windies breathing fire... I've just heard this is a rumor but I'd like to know whats the lowest total a captain has ever declared at .

  1. Here is the scorecard of the match you're talking about:

  2. cool that match must have been very cool to watch but sad aswell b'cos india lost.....

  3. On 14 Jan 2000, England forfeited their first innings and South Africa forfeited their second innings in the Test at Centurion. That is, they both effectively declared on 0. The match was shortened by rain which allowed no play on Days 2, 3 and 4. South Africa scored 248 in their first innings and England scored 251/8 in their second innings to win by 2 wickets. England's first innings score was recorded as 0/0 declared, while SA's second innings was officially recorded as forfeited. Thus the record for the lowest declaration belongs to England, not SA. (SA won the 5-match series 2-1, however.

The India vs. WI match at Kingston in 1976 does not count because the Indian batsmen were all (or most of them) classified as "retired hurt" or "absent injured", and India's second innings was officially ended at 97 all out, and was not a declaration as the batsmen simply were unable to bat.

  4. 42 india made against England

  5. 6565
