What's the method called when you cultivate an indoor plant/herb with a lamp for a certain period of time?

I know that the point of the lamp is to replicate sunshine and turning it off gives it its nightime, but what's the name of the method, and what follows next?

Also, are you supposed to use a heat lamp? I heard those drain lots of electricity. Any other options? Solutions?

  1. It's called indoor growing dude.

Best lamps to use are High Intensity Discharge (HID), Metal Halide or my personal favourite the High Pressure Sodium (HPS). I've had great success with just 1 x 600watt HPS.

Flourescents do work for clones and mother plants.

  2. Nursery?

Not a heat lamp, but some plants need UV light.  some kinds of halogen bulbs and florescent bulbs can provide this.  Remember, though, it depends on the plant!  Some plants die with too much light.
