What i really hope for is that our new pres will let us fight and give our people the needed weapons and the real leaders so we can do what ever the job calls for. So lets stop giving away our money to others countrys and lets take care of our americans and protect whats left of the USA !We can have all the armor and weapons ,but its how we use them and if we are allowed too!!

Actually, it really doesn't depend on the president too much. Most military tech has been 5-10 years in the making.  So whatever comes out it the next 3 years will have already been in the chute.

That said, body armors will likely be slightly lighter, slightly more flexible, and cover slightly more of the extremities. Right now, they're in the process of deciding the next phase in armor, and it will likely take another 2-3 years for it to be issued to all the troops once it's decided on.

Weapons will likely remain the M-4.  It's reliable, useful for close quarters, and universal enough that it'd be a hassle to replace.  There is an alternate carbine in consideration, I've heard, but again, if it is chosen to replace the M-4 (which I doubt), it would take years to make its way down to all the troops.

I also want to add: to the people that think the democrats are soft on the military, I want to compare Bush Sr. to Clinton.  Bush Sr. was obsessed with cold-war-style battles, and developed new tanks and bigger weapons to fight organized forces.  Clinton was jibed for being soft on the military because instead of developing new tanks, he put the drive into guided missiles and increased mobility.  Now look at the type of war we're fighting, which are we using more? Tanks or smart bombs?
