Hi! I have just immigrated from China to Australia. I live in NSW. I got quite confused about how to register a used car in NSW. Because of all kinds of slips, and insurance. I would like to know

1 How many kinds of slips are there in all? What does each of them do? how much is the cost? and which of them are compulsory for registering a car?

2 How many kinds of insurance are there in all? is "3rd party insurance" compulsory for registering a car? how much is the cost for a 21-year old driver who just got license 1 month before?

Thanks!!

  1. The are three kinds of slips

Pink slips (After you car is 3 years old, very year you need to get this done to insure the vehicle is safe on the roads)

Blue slip(if the car has been out of rego for 3 months, bringing a vehicle from overseas or interstate, they need to do this to make sure the car in road worthy in NSW)

Green Slip (CTP) Compulsory Third Party Insurance in NSW. This needs to be done each time you renew your vehicles registration.

Insurance it depends.. There is compulsory which is the green slip (everyone has that) TTPD(Third party propert damage) This is if your car is not worth too much and you cause damage to a person or building

Comprehensive insurance. Full cover that is for the whole vehicle, they will pay you out an agreed or market value for the car if it is in an accident and repair it(depending which is more)find info on www.rta.nsw.gov.au
