What's the minimum income that a college student needs in order to survive living in CA?

Depends on where in  CA.  You *might* be able to survive on $15K a year, but you would not like it, living in a shack and eating rice and tacos all the time.  You will need to live with someone, to share the rent.  With $30K, you could have an almost decent life.

Depends on where in CA and what "surviving" means

If you are a brave sort you can get 1 bedrooms for $600 in LA area, but you might want to sleep with a kevlar vest on.  

Most other stuff in CA is about the same as anywhere (food, util, phone, etc)

Again, depends on what "surviving" is....you have a car....you have pets....you actually want hot water?
