I've visited a few sites, and read some of my reference books, but they all have different answers. Which is the most common of the 3 main classes of galaxy (Hubble sequence), spirals, ellipticals, or irregulars? And if its spirals, would it be ordinary spirals or barred spirals?

Besides that, which is the rarest of the 3?

  1. try www.earth and sky and youtube.com maybe they might  be able to help . and maybe wikipedia also

  2. this is simple....a caramel galaxy........and oh yea....we all know the milkyway..... :D

  3. i think spirals were the most common, but there is at least some evidence that ellipticals and irregulars are the result of collisions, so these days its probably 1) irregular 2) elliptical 3) spiral.

  4. I think dwarf ellipticals are the most abundant type. Anyone who says spirals are the most common is talking out of their backside.
