I was always suggested by friends as well as vet to go with the "Advantage" drops that you get from the vets based on their weight.  When you use the collar all of the flea medicine is dispersed directly on the neck area only, and often cat's scratch their neck raw, and also it will only kill the live flea and not the egg.  The Advantage kills the live flea and also the eggs as well so that you will not have any problems after the initial outbreak, and it lasts for 30 days whereas the collar gets weaker if it gets wet.

None.  Flea collars contain strong pesticides that are concentrated around the cats neck.  Many have reactions to them.  The safest thing you can use is feline Advantage.  Totally non-toxic as it is topical and does not get absorbed into the bloodstream.
