My husband, 16 yr.old daughter and I would like to cruise the western Caribbean and Mexico, leaving from Florida. What is the best ship for a teenager and her parents? We'd like to travel for 5-7 days, and get the best value for our money.

  1. Royal Caribbean has the best reputation and great value for your $$$.

  2. Just this past summer my family and I went on Carnival valor to the eastern caribbean. Carnival Valor the ship was a great ship for teens. Lots of activites, they had whats called Club o2. For ages 15-17 and there were tons of activites happening each day. There is a disco and an arcade called "the caboose".The cruise I went on was a week long. The caribbean is an awesome place to go, the weather is wonderful.

  3. The choices are constantly growing: the Caribbean has three options: Eastern, (my wife's favorite for shopping in St. Thomas) or Western ports (generally more adventurous shore excursions). For a Southern Caribbean cruise (my favorite), you'll need to fly to San Juan.

The next question is how structured you want your cruise to be. Most ocean cruise lines have "assigned" dining times and various dress codes for dinner (formal nights, casual nights, etc.). Others have "Freestyle" or "Personal Choice" Dining. In other words, they have 6-10 restaurants for you to choose from, and you eat when, where, and with whom you want - and dress as casual as you please.

Your budget does come in to play in both departure city and cabin selection. A quick scale, from least expensive to most expensive cabin types is: Inside; Oceanview; Balcony; Suite. The best location for least motion is as close to mid-ship as possible - another factor that not too many people realize is that the higher decks have more motion than the lower decks.

Some final thoughts; 1) make sure you use a good travel agent; 2) ask your travel agent to price out "Celebrity Cruise Line" for you - absolutely the best (our personal favorite!); 3) teenagers love Royal Caribbean - a lot for them there; and 4) remember that August - October is hurricane season in the Caribbean.

Also remember that "best value for your money" doesn't mean "cheapest".

  4. you should definitely visit this website: www.georgeortega.mytravelweb.net the best deals for your money

  5. I would check out Royal Caribbeans Freedom of the Seas.  It is their largest, newest ship.  I would definitely choose Royal Caribbean, especially with a teen.  Carnival is good for young people too, but I think all around you would like Royal Caribbean better.  Also check out anything in the voyager class.  I have been on the Voyager and it is really nice.  But there are several ships just like it.  You can look up pictures of the ships at rccl.com and read reviews at cruisecritic.com

I have cruised with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Princess and Royal Caribbean is my favorite.  I am  not even going to waste my time trying anyone else in the future.

  6. Almost any of the larger cruise lines will offer the entire family so many  things to do and see.  Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Norwegian.  They all offer a nice deals and lots of different shore excursions.  While on board you can run all day and night or you can sit by the pool and do nothing, it's whatever you want to do.  Go to all of the web sites and see what tickles your fancy and go from there.  Have a Great time on your Cruise, there is no better vacation.  Regards KG
