What's the most frustrating shot to watch?

For the women, I'd say Dementieva's serve. Even her first serve isn't great, but her second serve is a train-wreck. The weird side-arm motion is terrible and it usually goes out. I find myself wincing just watching it.

On the men's side, I'd have to pick Greg Rusedski's service return. It was awkward and tentative and rarely won him many points. It was dreadful to watch. His backhand was no treat either. Occasionally, he would come over on it and hit a good one but, usually he'd hit that tentative chip... even if he had an open-court. It was painful to watch.

What shots by the pros have you scratching your head?

  1. Watch this serve by a woman pro in the 2006 Wimbledon

  2. Marian Bartoli has the weirdest serve ever, in my book.

  3. marion bartoli

  4. A kill shot near the net and the player hits it into the net.

  5. 1. Andy Roddick's return serve (especially off the backhand side). That is definetely his least effective shot. James Blake does this so much better than Andy that he should take some tips.

    2. Novak Djokovic's nervous dropshot that he tries to pull out when he gets down in a game. It almost never works! He can only do a dropshot when his confidence is high.

    3. Roger Federer's backhand when he shanks it. It usually happens when he tries to come over it when Nadal hits heavy topspin on clay towards Federer's backhand.

    4. Elena Dementieva's serve for obvious reasons

    5. Maria Sharapova's swinging volley's. Even though it's a pretty consistent shot for her, it just looks awkward. Bad technique and wrong shot selection. I wish she would learn how to hit a normal volley.

    6. Venus Williams' second serve. I don't understand how she can have the best first serve in the game and one of the worst second serves.

  6. Good question, and tough to answer. I have to agree that sometimes Djoko pulls the drop shot, and he nets it.  Sometimes Roger goes for a screaming winner, when he doesn't have to, and he ends up making an error (gasp!), and Nadal finally stopped his endless service preparation thing, and he's still winning.

And, whenever the player I'm rooting for makes a mistake. boohoo.

  7. I agree 100% with you. those are definitely frustrating to watch

  8. maria sharapova takes FOREVER to get her serve out and that ear piercing scream it just a little annoying!! she's a good player but woow ANNNOOOYING! a shot that is annoying is a drop shot it is a very good shot and you have to have a lot of skill to really pull it off nut i think its kinda cheap

  9. It has to be Sharapovas serve. The orgasmic scream that goes with the shot deprives the viewer of any pleasure.

Unless they watch tennis as a substitute for blue movies.

I don't mind Djokovic serve it is rather good, but the smug look on his face when he delivers an ace is nauseating.

A few women players need to work on their second serve.

  10. Fabrice Santoro if you're any kind of tennis purist.

  11. carlos moya's backhand

  12. The moonball (sanchez vicario I think was quite popular for it)

  13. i hate it when djokovic is controlling the point then he just randomly decides to put a drop shot and misses it soooo retarded
