  1. keep in mind, the turbo might needs replacement soon.

  2. Never pay but slightly over NADA whole sale. Look it up on the NADA website.

  3. $2200 sounds like a pretty good deal.  Edmunds.com goes further than KBB with their pricing.  They take into account the True Market Value of the car.  For that car, with that mileage, it can go for $2600 in outstanding condition.

  4. just leave it

I mean run in the other direction.

Saabs are the worst to own and repair.

they suffer with small problems that are difficult to diagnose.

unless your a mechanic or your bf or Father owns a repair shop, do not buy a Saab, Audi, Jaguar or a Range Rover.

you'll need to buy 2 cars so you have something to drive while the Saab is in the repair shop.

    a few owner reviews

My guess is that Saab will be extinct in the very near future. Why do I say that? Every Saab has the same problems yet the manufacturer ignores them. I've had 4 saabs...three 900's and a 9-3. Every car I owned had problems with the AC, the radio antenna motor and the windows. Folks, these are not hard things to perfect...especially something as simple as a radio antenna. People know about these problems and the expense of fixing them so less and less people are buying the cars. Resale values are ridiculously low...I mean ridiculous. Its a shame. Great cars but the manufacturer doesn't care. If every saab in America has the same 3 problems, maybe a recall would be in order?

the electric system in the car is not the greatest. if have only ha the car for 2k miles, and have had the moonroof break, alternator go, headlight relay go, and a few other minor problems. otherwise it has been trouble free so far. the ride is also kind of stiff, and i wish it were a little less so. the trunk has also leaked since day one, although i dont think this is a wide spread problem because i have determined that the car was damaged where the water is comeing from.and, for people who live where there is snow, the snow and rain freezes around the antenna in the winter and it will not work, which basically puts the radio out of commission until it melts.

Mine leaked water into the rear hatchback area when it rained, I'm sure I could've gotten it fixed. Rarely could keep the check engine light off due to a secondary air pump failure (that means that there was some sort of dust or dirt in one of the air lines which is not worth fixing and would take hours for a mechanic to track down, dealership tried six times but this did not keep the car from functioning properly) Wished I had turbo to match the 5 speed manual transmission, a little slow starting off.

Car has too many problems..electrical, water leaking into car when it rains, engine light comes on every other month, the ac fluid leaks into the car when you use the ac, the tires do not keep their pressure very well, the whole car rattles, water drains seem to always get clogged.

Expensive repairs. $1400 for broken conv top motor. Little things break too often too many...electric antannae motor, display on console, windshield sprayer nozzle, interior lights, under car mudflap, leak from AC into passenger floor, sun visor.... And I have only owned the car for 4 months (50,000K total miles). Small rear window makes it difficult to see while merging on highways, or in reverse at night.

  5. Based on Kelly's Blue Book, it sounds like a good deal.  You can enter the specific info...but based on your description, I punched in "average" condition and the price range is $4,100-$5,300 - private party value.

  6. Look in Kelly Blue book for the private seller price.

    It's KBB.com

  7. Just keep in mind you cant take that car to your neighborhood mechanic. The upkeep may turn into a money pit. Id look for a cheap import  for 3200.00 easy to get worked on and good on gas. That turbo could be a real problem if it goes out. Id walk away if I were you.If he dropped 1k off the price right away that would be a red flag.Good luck.

  8. I do not really know about saab. However, I had '96 Mitsubishi eclipse turbo convertible with 110,000 miles. It was my worst car ever. I changed engine for 3 times but it is b.c. eclipse's this model's turbo is famous for bug engine. (also previous owner was racing with this car)

So, I dont know about this saab's turbo engine. In addition, my convertible was really bad too. it was looking great and working well (open and close); however, when it rains, it is leaking so bad and all of window gets fogged.

From my experience, BE AWARE when u buy turbo and  convertible car especially if u r trying to buy a cheap one.

  9. Dear, 1996, 900 convertible is too old a vehicle to even touch. I know convertibles are very attractive to young people but this one seems to be over the hill. Saabs are difficult to sell anyway even when brand new, so if he goes to 1500$, go for it, if he does not, try the gamble and walk away, he will come back and accept. Trust me, I am sure he does not have too many customers asking for this car. However, still, if maintained properly with all service records, top working, which is not in this case, this car can go for some more miles as the engine and gearbox are normally good on these cars. Turbo has probably been changed already by now and so is the D.I cassette, check these out. Ask to have the car checked by a SAAB tech and he should do a

    Cooling test

    Compression test

Drive and feel the car for any gear slippage

Check suspension for any unwanted noises

    Check for leakages all over

If you feel satisfied after all this, take it.
