Question:

What's the name of the famous artwork with the man, the woman and the pitchfork?

I've seen it zillions of times, but i've never known the name. They look sort of like farmers, or pilgrims, or something. No one is smiling. The guy is holding a pitchfork, and the woman is looking out at something. It sort of makes you think "witch! burn her".

anyone know the name?

  1. american gothic, by grant woods, an iowa artist early 20th century. it is oil on beaverboard.


  2. "American Gothic" by Grant Wood. It's on display at the Chicago Art Institute, and is smaller than you'd expect, about 2 feet by 3 feet.
