He played in the late 70s or early 80s. We're pretty sure he wore the number 16, and he played in the outfield. We think his last name starts with the letter M. Any ideas?

  1. roberto clemente

  2. omar moreno wore #18 and played for the pirates.

  3. You could be thinking of Roberto Clemente, who died tragically in a plane crash while going to aid his native country, Venezuela, after a tragic earthquake, but he wore #21.  Another famous player from that era was Willie Stargell.

  4. Andy Van Slyke

  5. Al Oliver, CF, wore #16 for the Pirates from 1968-1977.

  6. It WASNT Clemente!

  7. Number 16 for the Pirates

    1977 - OF Al Oliver

    1978 - P Will McEnaney, C Steve Nicosia

    1979 - 1983 - C Steve Nicosia

My guess is you're thinking of Omar Moreno who played for the Pirates as an OF from 1975 to 1982.  He wore #24 is first year and #18 every other year.
