I've seen quite a few times on so you think you can dance but I've never been taught what it is. When you go from on your knees and then pull up into a standing position and you go through your toes. and if you know it how do you learn it?

  1. I don't know the name and I have never done it before, but got it on the first try (thanks for the suggestion).  The main problem is balance while getting up.  In one motion, lean backwards to bring your center of mass (butt) over your ankles and straighten your legs.  I perform in a Ukrainian dance group and do several similar moves that operate on the same principle.  These are schupak (squat kicks to the front), preseke (squat kicks to the side) and parallel  leg rises (rising to standing from a squat with 1 leg in front kept parallel to and off the ground).  These are power moves:  you may need to build your strength to do them.  A fast movement is a lot easier than a slow movement.
