I picked this off of a tree and I'm curious about what kind of fruit it is...

It's small (smaller than a tennis ball), fairly round and hard. The skin is rough (bumpy), and light green with black speckles all over. The inside is yellow and it's got a huge pit (like a peach) in the center.

It's definitely NOT an avocado, though it sounds like one, and it's not a lime or any kind of fruit traditionally sold in grocery stores.

If it helps any the tree is in the northeast of the US.

  1. Could the fruit you are describing be a mango? The tree would not be native to the Northeast. The other which is green with a rough exterior is an Osage Orange. It is neither orange or edible.

  2. green apple??? IDK

  3. Sounds like a Sweet Gum Tree dropping its seeds.

  4. Is it the fruit of a black walnut?
