What's the next two terms in this number pattern?

1, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, __, ___

What are you doing to each number to get the next?

Looking at it, I can mentally say it's descending (I'm guessing the next two would be 1/5 and 1/6) but I need a mathematical reason or else my teacher won't accept the answer. =/

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.

  1. yes 1/5 and 1/6. you see 1 is actually 1/1... so the pattern is that every time, 1 is added to the denominator (the bottom number)

  2. The pattern is 1/n

So yes, the next two terms are 1/5 and 1/6.

  3. ok i guess

    1. write 1 as it is

    2. now multilpy it with 1/2 get 1/2

    3. now 1/2* 2/3 get 1/3

    4. now 1/3 * 3/4 get 1/4

    5. now 1/4 *4/5 get 1/5

    and so on

    hope u get it
