What's the oldest pub in London? And I mean, still in the building it has always stood in.?

Not rebuilt on the site of a former inn, or taken it's name from an older Inn nearby.

I'm going for a bit of a pub crawl on saturday, and would like to visit the oldest one in London.

  1. I think it's the Cheshire Cheese in Fleet Street, probably my favourite pub in the whole of London so well worth a visit.

To be honest, no-one actually knows for sure. The Cheshire Cheese, rebuilt in 1667 - the year after the great fire, still stands as being one of the oldest, even with the rebuild. The other one that 'might' be the oldest is The Prospect of Whitby in Wapping.

  2. lamb and flag

  3. I think you will find the oldest pub in London is a house by the name of the Lord Raglan in Aldersgate Street, re-built in the 1850s.

  4. There is an argument about that one. try this site.

Or i found this one its The George and Devonshire, in Chiswick. It is the oldest pub in Chiswick, built some time prior to 1657, and according to the people that own it still trades in the original building. How true this is you would have to see if you go there as they say it obviously not a rebuild!

has a list as long as your arm and the addresses.
