Question:

What's the perfect tree?

I live in eastern PA and I'm looking for a tree (preferably something evergreen) to act as a privacy screen between my yard and the neighbor's yard.

I want something in-between in density- not too lacy and sparse nor too thick and heavy. Nothing that drops huge cones or fruit. But ALSO the most important thing I am looking for is height. The tree would be by itself in a sunny backyard, and we don't want it to get to big. Hopefully our tree would never grow above 40-50 feet, if that.

Obviously, nothing prone to bugs or disease. Also, I really don't like junipers.

  1. Arborvitae (Thuja) just ask what type will do well in your place.  These are lacy but not see-through and they are evergreen and can be cut at any time of the year.

  2. Tsuga canadensis  Eastern Hemlock

  3. Custard apples.

Resistant to most of the pests and bugs. Do not grow big. Do not become too spreading.

Other plants to consider are :

    Ficus Benjamina,

    Thuja,

Jacobs ladder (trained on supprting grill), Wonderful for cutting dust and provides a blind like effect even at a width of 8".

    Carrissa Indica

    Lantana camara.
