Question:

What's the point of choosing an ESCO (Energy Service Com)?

From what I understand, ESCOs supply gas, electricity, and I can choose to enroll in one of the many ESCOs. But I still need to be in a delivery company in order to get the gas, electricity.

And delivery companies still provide you the gas and electricity when if they don't enroll in an ESCO.

The size of the bill does not necessarily lower even if I choose an ESCO. Is this whole facade just to encourage market competition?

  1. Maybe partially, but some of the fuel comes from different sources.  You may end up paying the same from different sources.  Pick the one that seems best (perhaps greenest?) to you.  Essentially it allows you to choose who will provide your energy.

  2. Yes, you got it.
