What's the point of life?

People are born, and people die; it's been happening for centuries.

But why? What's the point of it all? If the destination is the same, why are we even put here to go on the journey?

I'm going to be sophmore in high school this fall, and I just feel like things like prom dates, honors classes, and just the monotony of school year after school year is...is essentially blah. After this is college, where there's another 4+ years of the same cycle. Then real life, have a job, a family, and die. Why though? Why are we here?

  1. Why are you here?   To enjoy the ride, none of that is monotony if you make it otherwise...step out of your box, do something different, volunteer your time somewhere.........the biggest adrenaline rush you can get is helping someone do something they can't, when there's no gain for you......

  2. good question... i always wonder that myself, but not on such a dark note. no ones knows, but life is full of great surprises to enjoy, so enjoy life and hopefully good things will come after.

  3. ...to be content, have no expectations of others, enjoy all that LIFE IS in the moment and be humble...

    ...thanks for asking...

  4. To find our own joy.  If the things you are looking at don't make you happy, figure out what does and follow your bliss.  Your path may not be the path that is planned for everyone to follow.  What makes your heart sing?  That's all that matters.

  5. I feel the same way, and the answers I get when I ask the same question are never satisfactory so I doubt my answer will be very satisfactory either.  People say "the point is to enjoy yourself" and "the point is to find what makes you happy" but how can anything make a person happy if it doesn't have a point?  So if I enjoy painting, but wonder, "What's the point of painting?  I'm just going to die and it will be exactly the same as if I never painted at all..." then how can I make myself happy by painting?  The truth is I do not have an answer at all, but I wanted to let you know that I am struggling through these feelings as well.

My personal solution: Just keep living, keep trying, keep working towards what feels the most right (or at least the least wrong) and hopefully one day things will make more sense and feel like they have more purpose.

  6. prom dates! what are you gonna say when he ...

develop a career!   what career  what heights only you know.

  7. I believe the point of life is to enjoy it.  I try to make my life as happy as i can and i contemplate whether to change things to make it better.  I do not believe in a higher power or "god".  I do not have to follow "guidelines" or "rules" to live a complete and happy life.  I always try to help people and try to let people understand where i an coming from.  I have enough common sense to know that i do not need a higher power to enjoy my life and be a good person.  I try to live a selfless life and try to make the best of it that i can.  Do what you want, make the most of life and enjoy it.

  8. the point is what you define it as, that is what makes us all so different

I personally think you should just be happy even if thats means you are poor or have no family, whatever makes you happy cuz i dnt see the point of me being upset just so i can have more money

and its not that I fear death, its just that I WANT to live

  9. i think about the point of life all the time. whats the point of life when you are going to die and nothing matters. is there a god, if is there how do you know, how do you know if people just made up "god" just to comfort themselves with the thought of death. if you think about death it will consume your thoughts.

there has to be something that created this universe, but what is it? what is the point of having us put on earth? what does it feel like to be on your death bed knowing that you are going to die? when you die is your soul just what you are remembered by?

i watched a show on discovery channel about this guy who said immortality will be possible in 10-15 years, and this guy worries about death 24/7. he is so rich but is so miserable because that's all he thinks about it. he thinks that we will be able to change our cell DNA so that it will stop telling about bodies to die, that about bodies will be like a machine where you just replace worn out parts. it's really creepy.

death crosses my mind everyday and i don't know why. maybe i need to get a prescription to xanax or something so i will just be like a mindless zombie like all the other pill poppers, not worrying about anything. people who know me would never think that i have these thoughts. i am an outgoing, fun, smart, and a good looking guy! i just need to try and not worry about it because what is the point about worrying about the inevitable. i might as well try to enjoy my life as much as possible while i am here!

  10. Everything in life is a distraction from out true calling: serving God. Life is a trial. We can strive to become physically healthy, to find joy in Gods beauty and thus spread joy and happiness to others, to work hard and make difficult sacrifices, yet we are subdued by our inherit flaws; greed, laziness and lustfulness being chief among them.

I believe the point is to know God. There are so many distractions in the world that this is very hard to do. The holy spirit is in us guiding us. The purpose is to become as godlike in life as possible, while still maintaining earthly success.

Becoming in tune with God is very hard. I am having great trouble myself. So far my goals are to become even more physically healthy, and to do exceptionally well in school, and to become more social and cut back on isolating activities such as reading and playing video games. By the end of this year (my senior year in high school) I hope to have eliminated all my glaring flaws and be able to move on to following all the laws in the bible.

Assess your owns goals and remember to never stop striving for perfection, but don't get hung up on failure. It is better to fail more often and be stress free than to never fail yet be perpetually nervous.

Also, I think that not everyones destination is the same.
