  1. Environmentally speaking it is pretty benign and it is even useful for some applications; the only environmental damage is from the process of manufacturing the panels.  The main problems are (1) it is very expensive to set up and (2) there just isn't enough energy available to meet our needs in a practical manner.  There are two numbers to keep in mind when assessing the merits of solar:  The sun delivers 1,300 watts per square metre at noon (less at other times of the day and none at all at night) and the best technology will not be able to capture more than 40% of that energy.  Divide that into the output of just a single conventional generating station and you will very quickly discover that covering an entire city with solar collectors wouldn't even come close to meeting that city's energy needs.

  2. solar power is actually good for the environment because it doesn't produce and greenhouse gases.

  3. I have never heard of it being damaging. The one problem I can see is it can be expensive. It cost a lot for a solar cell and you need quite a bit to make up a panel. To be able to power what you need it will take a lot of solar panels.

  4. Solar power damaging the environment? Hmmm...never heard that one before--the only negative I've heard is that right now it is expensive to install so few people use it as an option.
