Question:

What's the proper pressure for swimming pool filters?

My pool is approximately 10,000 gallons. The filter is fairly new....purchased in February 2008. Right after cleaning the filter, it seems to push the water okay, but the next day, it's not moving much, so I wonder what the pressure gauge should show?

  1. The pressure gauge is just a tool....whatever the starting pressure is when the filter is freshly cleaned, when the pressure rises 10-15 PSI above that you know its getting dirty. An optimal pressure would be 10 PSI but if you have solar,a very strong pump,if its in spa mode,or lots of other reasons it may start out higer.

  2. our store we just say when the flow is comin out good and fast then you do not need to backwash when the flow is very slow then you need to backwash. the guages are a piece of c**p and are expensive and they just dont last long at all. all they are good for is to plug up that hole!!! :) because if that guage breaks and you are only looking at that you may not realize if you need to backwash or not.

  3. My family owns a pool store in FL and I have been working here all my life (almost 20yrs) The psi should be about 10 when clean. When it gets between 20 to 30 psi time to clean. Is it an aboveground?
