  1. You can roll it, spray it or brush it on.

You must protect the areas that you don't want the stain on.

This is a bigger problem for spraying. Don't spray if there is any wind. Spraying will use more material.

Even if you use a roller you will need a brush for some areas.

Applying it generously with a brush or roller then brushing it out to even it will give the best results.

Reasonable care in putting on the stain may give you a good job in one coat. You want to move fast enough so that you finish a piece before parts of it dry. (For a more even coverage)

  2. rent or buy a pressure washer, pressure wash it, let it dry for a day, then get the stain you want, put it in a garden sprayer, spray it on and spread it around with a paint roller. its real easy. good luck

  3. 1  Choose an outdoor wood stain for smooth lumber.

2    Be sure the wood is clean and free of grease. Strip off existing finishes (see Related eHows) and completely sand the wood.

3    Apply the stain with a 4-inch paintbrush or painting pad, working with the grain, never across it.

4    Use a 2-inch paintbrush to get the stain into cracks and crevices, between boards and around hardware.

5    Blend the edges of each application to prevent stripes.

6    Work quickly, and don't stop in the middle of a board to take a break.

    7     Apply two coats.
