What's the proper way to dive into water?

  1. Depends upon your goal...

    If you are diving off a diving board or diving recreationally you want to enter the water more vertically. You do this by pushing off the board or deck with your feet like you would jumping but throw your upper body forward with your arms above your head.

    If you are diving for a competitive swim race you want to enter the water at more of an angle. More advanced swimmers have a pike/whip-like dive that propels them further forward. If you are diving for a race you can either stand with both feet at the edge or have 1 foot at the edge and the other stagered behind it. You would still push off the surface but not up, more out.

    The best way to learn how to dive is to watch someone do it. Watch people at the pool or check youtube for videos
