Is it reliable? How far would you have to go to get to the station/pick up to get to work and back? Could you use it if you had to work late or leave early? Would you save a lot or a little money by using it everyday?

  1. there isn't really any unless you live in the city or downtown

  2. I live in a North Suffolk village and work 28 miles away. I can get one bus from my village for the first 24 miles and a 2nd for the last 4 miles. Total journey time 1hr 40mins.

    That is in theory!!!

In practice, I work anti-social hour shifts, one with a very early start and the other with a very late finish.

The first bus out in the morning would get me to work 90mins late on the early shift.  On the late shift, the last bus out  homewards leaves 3 hours before i finish!

It is reliable enough, if the timing fits your work hours. (the buses are mostly every 30  mins). It would cost over £10 a day.

The BIG crunch is that country areas are also almost invariably low wage areas also. For working anti-social hour shifts on a rolling basis, getting only 1 weekend off in 4 on average (with NO premium for Saturday and Sunday working

and only time and a quarter for what little overtime is available my salary is just over £14000 a year as a Mental Health support Worker (fully qualified to NVQ 3 standard).

If fuel prices continue to increase at the rate they have been over the last couple of months, within 6 months I would actually be financially better off unemployed !

In these circumstances you will understand that the Tanker drivers striking as they have been stuck on £32k a year for about 8 years and are turning down £39k a year  get little support or sympathy from me.

  3. I wouldn't know since I've never used it.

  4. Mine is OK.  It's reliable, but somewhat infrequent.  About 10 minutes walk from my place is the closest station.  It runs pretty early/late, so that's not an issue.   I try to use it whenever possible, but it isn't suitable for daily use.
