Question:

What's the punishment for a reckless high tackle?

I have been quite confused over the ruling on this one. On Friday night, in the SL, Mick MclLorum was sent off (Red) within the first five/ six minutes of the match. My understanding of the rules was that, for a sole, reckless high shot, then the referee only has two options: Red Card or On Report. In other words, you can't be sinbinned for a sole high shot? (I'm not talking about persistent fouling here which, of course, you can be sin binned for.)

Is this correct or have the rules changed?

  1. Should be an early shower and find your own way home - but if you have a blind linesman and a two bit referee its a card 10 minutes in the bin

  2. As far as I am aware (and I have helped two sons get their ref's tickets), there is no putting on report in union. It is up to the referee and touchies to decide if it was accidental, careless, reckless or deliberate. Their decision is then to generally caution and penalise or send off (red card) and penalise.

In rugby league they do have the ability to place a player on report rather than take any action except to penalise.  In league, a previous referee's coach, advised that in his view if the referee and/or touch judges see the incident then they should adjudicate on it. The reporting should only happen when the officials do not have a clear view of the incident.

  3. Which code are you asking about? In union, a high tackle is penalised if not considered dangerous or malicious by the referee. If the referee is of the opinion that the tackle is dangerous or malicious, he uses his discretion to decide whether the offence is worthy of a yellow or red car. I have no idea about the rules for union.

  4. no yellow or red card and a 1 week suspension, ask brad thorn

the *** hole got away wit murder!!

  5. Who did Brad Thorn kill?
