Seriously! I really hope Rocco wins it, but his chances are slim...Why on Earth would they put him through the misery of playing a full 18 holes against Tiger instead of sudden death...Seems like it would be much less painful!

  1. The US Open is the hardest tournament in the world to win, it is the Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup of golf.  After battling through 18 hole local qualifier, and 36 hole sectional qualifier to get there and battline through 72 holes on the most difficult course set up available against the best players in the world and being tied for the lead, would you want the outcome to be decided by one bad bounce, on a sudden death hole?  No way, the only way to decide a championship this big is to play a full 18 hole round to determine who is the overall best player.  Playing a full round greatly improves the chance that the best overall player will win, and not someone who got lucky on one playoff hole.

  2. USGA wants to be unique by being the only major to have a 18 hole playoff championship and distinguish the true champion.

  3. poor Rocco. tiger is being well sportsmen like today Rocco knew tiger would  slaughter him in  a play off , i swear golf is getting more exciting than the NBA games .lol

  4. its the us open

  5. Good thing it wasn't sudden death for Rocco, he would have lost.

  6. If it was "just another tournament", I could see the sudden death or 4-hole playoff being adequate.  But, this is a major.

4 holes should never undermine the 72 holes of work these guys have already put in.  If you can't figure out who the best is after four rounds, give them a fifth round, so they can decide amongst themselves.

It seems like the only logical way to do it.

  7. i thought they were going to do a one hole playoff yesterday but then they said an 18 hole playoff tomorrow (today now)

i looked it up and the us open is the only major that goes to an 18 hole playoff an hasn't done so since 2001

  8. Because the USGA are rich old guys who wont break away from tradition.  And you wonder what happens if they tie after these 18 holes.  Well they have a sudden death playoff.  So it kind of contradicts what they are trying to stand for.  They are stupid.  Who it really hurts is the fans.  People taht watch it to see a winner on sundays, cant watch it because of work on monday.  Golf needs fans and the USGA are idiots who care more about tv air time for commercials.
