What's the purpose of green wax on the top of the bamboo plants that you buy?

I've noticed there's always green wax at the top of the bamboo plants. You know, the lucky bamboo you buy and there's like a signification, according to the number of stems.

It's a pretty weird question I know... but I'm bored.

  1. The green wax is to prevent the bamboo from drying out. The wax holds the moisture in. Oh, and it keeps bugs from living in the depression.


  2. Since bamboo grows like a weed, the sellers of the bamboo put the green wax on it to keep it from growing
