The compost for gardening brings a small balls made of polyethylene, in abundance. What are they for?

  1. The small balls are perlite, a naturally occuring siliceous rock.

    Perlite stimulates root initiation and vigorous growth, holds moisture, is sterile.

  3. I think you may be talking about Perlite.  It's not plastic. "Perlite is an amorphous volcanic glass that has a relatively high water content, typically formed by the hydration of obsidian. It occurs naturally and has the unusual property of greatly expanding when heated sufficiently."

    Expanded perlite is what you find in soil mixes.

    It is added to potting mixes to increase air content of soil, while still having good water-retention properties, improving soil texture.
