What's the qualfications for Low-Income/Section 8 Housing for a single person?

I need to find a cheap place to live temporarily. I was told If I was single applying without having a family making mimium wage I wouldn't meet the qualifications. Is this true?

  1. anyone can apply but I will tell you that the waiting list are VERY VERY long.  They give preferences to disabled females, single parents, elderly, vets,  illegals, etc. as a single male you would be so far on the list,  you would be married with kids before your name came up.. you can always try but just know that if you live in places like TX or CA or any major city, you are looking at a waiting  list of 2-20 years.. smaller cities maybe not as long but most places haven't even taken sec. 8 apps in 3-4 years the list is so long. You would be better off finding a roommate or renting a room in a house that someone owns..Most of the time as a single male they won't even take your app.  Apply..you might get luck. Buy I applied in AL and I had preference..disability and I had at least a 3 year wait. GL
