I only have 3 more nights until the first day of school, and my friend and I went bike riding today and I have a really bad sunburn. I have tan skin, which means that it's really easy for my skin to become darker. I need to know if there's a way that I can make my skin become lighter by the first day of school. (My friend and I also didn't put on any sunscreen cause we were in a rush). HELP!!

  1. buy an aloe vera plant, break or cut one of the stems off, then squeeze the inside of the plant all over the sun burn, apply again after it dries as many times as you want. If you do this as soon as you wake up in the morning it will be gone by mid day or night. Also depends on the person, works really fast for me.

  2. Oh man, sunburns suck.  I had a terrible one earlier this summer.  These couple of videos might help you out:

If you want to try a more specific remedy, try this-

  3. lemon juice and sugar scrub will make your tan lighter and more golden. get a bowl and add however much sugar you want then add lemon juice till its like a paste, rub the paste all over your body and use it like any other scrub. the sugar helps to remove the top layer of skin while the lemon actually does a chemical change on the color making it lighter and more pleasing to the eye. if you don't believe me make a glass of tea and ad a little lemon to it, the color gets lighter. i have done this before and it has always worked. i usually add a little vegetable oil to the mix but if your burnt you don't want any oil on your skin because it will hold in the heat and make your burn worse. be careful next time girls you don't want leathery skin when your 25, the sun is much more intense than when i was a kid and i'm only 22. hope you have a great first day.

  4. pure aloe vera gel works better than anything I have ever used to heal a sunburn. (you can buy it at the drugstore or cut open a leaf from an aloe vera plant) It will take the red out, but I don't know of anything that will lighten your skin, I don't think you can do that without laser treatment once the sun has damaged your skin enough to change its color. good luck.

  5. I know that you've probably heard the aloe vera thing A LOT...believe me...but it really does help if you keep reapplying it. If you store it in the fridge, it can give you more of a relief when you first put it on.

Mix a half-water, half-vinegar solution and apply it to the burn with a spray bottle or soaked cloth. This will sting a little bit at first, but it definitely pulls the burning sensation out of your sunburn.

Ice packs (in small amounts of time) and cold cloths or compresses will also help to minimize the length of time that you have redness and should help with the swelling.

Take lukewarm (room temperature) BATHS. Taking showers with too high of a water pressure could increase your pain. Taking a too-cold bath won't help, and will make you freezing. And a too-hot bath runs the risk of burning you even more, or irritating the burn that you already have.

Make sure that you drink PLENTY of water, in order to keep your body hydrated so you don't develop a fever. If you do develop a fever, take an acetaminophen or an ibuprofen to help get rid of the fever and to minimize inflammation and swelling.

If your sunburn is really bad and seems to be very painful, you may want to go see your doctor and get a prescriptive treatment.
