  1. The greenest ways to go with gasoline, or vehicle fuels in general, is to use less. Really, that is a combination of fuel efficient vehicles, AND modifying your personal habits.

Use less of everything, and use what you need to in a sensible way.

  2. i know where you can get gas for free!!

go to your neighborhood mcdonalds and ask for their extra grease.. filter it and put it into your tank! start it up and your good to go!!  the only downside is that your car may smell like hamburgerss...

  3. No.  It's all about the same although I prefer some brands only because I trust their additives for reasons other than "green" ones.

"Electric" has the best suggestion.  I'm glad he didn't suggest all electric cars.  They won't be practical until their batteries are more so and nuclear power is universal.  Even then, it's not certain.  Planning your trips to be as efficient in your fuel usage as you practically can is the "greenest" and least expensive method you have now.

  4. Gas stations may buy from different refineries, so there isn't any good way to determine where your gas comes from.  Even ethanol isn't any better for the environment (and may be worse).

Burning "greasel", as the previous poster suggests, is only for diesel vehicles with modified fuel systems.

  5. Other than hybrids, which I feel is going to be an intermediate step to the next source of automotive power, I'd suggest reading up on the companies that sell it and choose the "Greenest" of the bunch.

It just makes sense that the gasoline producers would invest in alternative energy so they can control the future market like they've done since the turn of the 1900's. So go with whoever is planning on the shortest period of gasoline usage.  From watching television commercials it appears that BP is headed in the right direction the fastest.  Unless I've heard wrong; they don't import middle-east oil so that's a plus for me.

I believe we'll never see the amount of oil coming out of there as we're using to control it... War turns out to be an enormous waste of resources but a terrific source of technological advancement.

Excuse my stepping up on my soap box.

  6. Gasolines don't differ much.  Avoid ethanol; it takes as much energy to make as it produces, and the fuel mileage is substantially worse.  I shop at Arco, because it's the lowest price around; their gasoline contains only 10% ethanol.

  7. littlepunki1010 is partly right. unfortunately, filtered cooking/vegi oil only works for diesel engines.

Thats probably the best thing we have right now that doesnt have a bunch of adverse effects
